✷ Character Information ✷
Full Name: Sora
Canon: Kingdom Hearts (Games version. Manga stuff may appear from time to time but his canon timeline and personality are taken from the games.)
Age: 16 (Some wikis say 15 for some reason, but taking into account he spent nearly a year in Namine's pod, that doesn't really make sense. I go by 14 in KH1, 15 in Chain of Memories, and 16 by the end of KH2 and into Dream Drop)
Point in Canon: At the end of Dream Drop Distance, just after he leaves the Mysterious Tower.
✷ History: A Wiki link.
✷ Personality:
Sora's personality could be described as somewhat childlike. He's mostly carefree, trusting, optimistic, idealistic, and he follows his heart. His friends are most important to him, they are his life. But this includes new friends as well as old, and he can make new friends quite easily as he likes to help and do what's right. This often leads to him saving people when they're in trouble or helping them out with whatever problem or situation they're in. He has, at times, ignored rules in order to do this (such as when he rushes in to Alice's aid despite Goofy and Donald telling him that meddling is not allowed) and he would do so again. People are more important than rules to him.
He has a simplistic charisma that seems to draw people in, likely because he's just very honest and sincere in everything he does. He's kind and has a very open heart, to the point that, sometimes even without his knowledge, he's let multiple people "reside" there, to keep them safe, to give them sanctuary. The way Sora is talked about by DiZ implies that this is his special gift, letting people into his heart without question and the fact that it hasn't broken him; his heart is strong, resilient. Another way they talk about this is discussing his heart being "connected" with a lot of people.
As heroic and pure as Sora really is, he has flaws like everyone else. While he takes his role and given quests seriously enough, he has a tendency to get side-tracked by things, often by helping people he's just met, or sometimes things that are fun. (Which explains his coming to Halloween Town pretty readily.) Due to his strong sense of justice, he often meddles in things that don't concern him, which can be both a positive and a negative thing, depending on how receptive people are to him helping. He also tends not to think too hard on things he doesn't understand, but sort of accepts them at face value and puts his optimistic/idealistic spin on it. This, again, can also be a positive thing, and gives him his own sort of simple, if a bit cheesy, wisdom. His fearlessness and bravery, too, can have downsides, as they lead to him rushing into things to save other people without a second thought as to his own safety.
Another thing mentioned as being special about Sora in the series is that he sees the good in people before the bad. This makes him very trusting and forgiving, and can even be perceived as him being very naive, especially in a universe that is potentially more malicious than the Kingdom Hearts universe. However, in the Kingdom Hearts universe it often results in bringing the good that he sees out in people, even when they don't think it's in them. This could be something also caused by the simplistic charisma he's got going for him.
There's an interesting contradictory thing about Sora too, in that he can be completely oblivious to things sometimes, or incredibly observant, and it can be difficult to discern when or why he'll be one or the other. From my experience reviewing canon and also through playing him, I've pinned this down to him being oblivious to other people's feelings when they're about him, but observant when they're about other things or other people. There are also of course plenty of things he doesn't understand yet, and doesn't bother thinking too much about either, which can come off as obliviousness.
For the most part, Sora is fairly simple. His emotions are easily read, and the only time he'll try to hide anything is for the sake of not worrying or hurting other people. His likes outweigh his dislikes, the only major thing that gets someone on his bad side being injustice. Even then, he's quick to forgive when remorse is shown. The only ones ever deemed as "enemies" for him would be the villains of the series and those who attack him first or target his friends. He treats them with suspicion but even more than that with sass and snark. Because, again, no fear for his own safety. However, he has given in before when his friends have been threatened, specifically the ones he holds closest to his heart like Riku and Kairi or Donald and Goofy.
Something to note about his home life, especially since he may have to share a home with other players in Halloween town: he's not a neat person. He tends toward clutter and tossing things wherever, and poking him about cleaning his stuff up will probably be necessary. He's sort of on the lazy side in general, with a tendency to daydream rather than do any chores, but he'll get on it once asked. He enjoys being helpful too, so if the chores are framed in a way that say "this will benefit me" rather than "this will benefit you," he'll probably stick on it a little better. Either that, or making them into a game definitely helps.
Overall, Sora just enjoys laughter and fun and friends, and being silly whenever possible.
✷ Magical Powers:
All of Sora's magical and physical abilities are taken from Kingdom Hearts 2 and not Dream Drop Distance, as DDD actually takes place in the sleeping worlds, and that's why the mechanics are different (and why Sora looks younger). Sora is awake again, so game mechanics revert back to how they worked in Kingdom Hearts 2. (Since, let's face it, at this rate KH3 probably won't be coming out until long after we've all died of old age.)
First things first, there are his spells:
- Fire, Fira, Firaga
- Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga
- Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga
- Cure, Cura, Curaga
- Magnet, Magnera, Magnega
- Reflect, Reflera, Reflega
He also has the ability to Summon characters to help him in battle through use of charms, but considering these would be characters that could actually be appable (Peter Pan, Stitch), it'd probably be best if he didn't have this ability while in Halloween Town, and would make sense since he's sort of in a different dimension/version of Halloween Town than he's used to, anyway.
Another ability he has is changing into different Forms through the use of his enchanted clothes, mentioned in Inventory section below. (Without Goofy and Donald, this is limited to Master and Final form, possibly Anti as well by accident.)
✷ Skills and Weapons:
Sora has the ability to summon his Keyblade no matter what world he's in. It will appear in his hand in a flash of light (or mouth if he has no hands, as it does when he's a lion cub in the Pride Lands) and will disappear the same way by will when he doesn't need it. If another person tries to take it, it will come back to Sora, it's chosen wielder.
Sora is skilled in fighting with this weapon though he's primarily self-taught. Experience has lead to him gaining multiple abilities, both physical and magical.
He appears to be extremely agile in battle, and once climbed a skyscraper by running the length of it sideways in The World That Never Was, as well as performing several other acrobatic moves in different boss battles through use of the Reaction command. Also notable are his High Jump ability and his Glide ability, the latter allowing him to "fly" in a way that's pretty much hang-gliding without needing the actual hang-glider. (So really it's more falling with style than flying.)
✷ Inventory:
- Keychains that have the ability to change the appearance of his Keyblade, sometimes with special effects like upping luck or critical hits. List of KH2 keyblade transformations through keychains.
- His magic clothes obtained from and enchanted by Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather in KH2. This allows him to draw power from his friends to take on a Form in battle.
- His Summon charms, possibly useless.
✷ Monster:
1) Trick-or-Treater: It seems like the most appropriate choice to me, since Sora is already a character that transforms depending on the world he's in, and he has a somewhat childlike personality. And the idea of him being easy to manipulate for candy amuses me. I also enjoy the idea of him having to learn how to make his own costumes.
2) Lycanthrope: Seems the next most fitting for Sora, and let's be real, playing a moody teenager is always fun, right? I would like his first animal to be an otter, but it is sort of both prey and predator, so I don't know if it would be allowed. His second animal (predator) would be a beagle - not top of the food chain, but still an animal that hunts, and it suits him well. The third animal he'd get upon Mastery would be a lion (which, if you're unfamiliar with Kingdom Hearts, he's actually been before, though as a cub, so I'm leaning towards him being more in between cub and adult state).
3) Lake Creature: Also would fit for Sora, having been born and raised on Destiny Islands and he's already experienced having a dolphin tail in Atlantica. A bioluminescent type would be preferable, and his most hated music genre would be metal. Also him hoarding shiny things or being distracted by them is a really amusing idea that I love.
✷ What caused your character to drink the potion? Sora's always willing to help his friends, and he considers Jack his friend whether the Pumpkin King remembers him or not. Also exploring holidays sounds fun and Sora's always down for fun.
✷ First Person Sample:
[As the screen clicks on, Sora's in view and is messing with the Jack o' Laptop a bit before he leans back and sits. There appears to be a half-made mask in his lap, though it's not done very well (especially since it's not clear what it's even a mask of), and needle and thread at his feet.
He's putting yet another bandage around his almost mummy-wrapped hands at this point. His thumbs look kind of ridiculous. He gives a laugh at himself as he looks at the screen.]
This is a lot harder than it looks. Hey, I got a bit of extra blood though if any vampires need it? [This is said with a grin, clearly a joke, as he shows his bandaged hands to the screen. Then he crosses his arms and leans forward on them.] But I got a more important question! What do you think is gonna be the next holiday we get to visit? It was pretty fun bein' a deer on Easter Island but I'd really like to get to see Santa again. Maybe we'll get to help him wrap and deliver toys and stuff!
Hey... [A thought comes to mind.] Do you think there's a birthday place too? What would that be like?
✷ Third Person Sample:
Sora with Rocket and Rika on the Halloween Town TDM
Sora with Snow White on the HT TDM
IS-version of Sora (basically the same minus a lot of memories) in his dreamscape
IS!Sora with Usagi/"Serena"
Why do you want to join Halloween Town: I really love the premise, and all of the different monsters. Exploring the different holidays sounds fun too. Overall, the concept of the game is just really intriguing to me and I look forward to playing and building CR here!
Do you have any questions?: If I read things correctly, the houses in Halloween Town are supplied and don't cost anything thanks to Jack, right? What about furnishings? Do they come already furnished?
